Homemade dog food?
My dogs diet is extremely bad, She has never really taken to dog food, so we’ve fed her human food. When I grew up and learned that this was bad, i’ve been trying very hard to convince my mother that we were VERY lucky for us to have had her twelve years.
Tonight, I went on another tangent while making dinner, explaining that all the sodium in her diet was going to kill her, etc, etc. She finally agreed to a homemade dogfood diet.
I know ground beef and turkey are good, Carrots, eggs and even ground up egg shell, and starches…but what else?
I have no worries about my dog liking it, she loves stuff like this.
Any specific recipes you guys use? I have one in mind, and i’m going to try it out after going shopping tomorrow, but I want to vary it.
Anything specific I should buy?
You have to make it a little more balanced, also feed a few (RAW ONLY) bones like whole chicken quarters, chicken necks/backs. Also organ meats, hearts, livers, gizzards. I don’t add veggies at all, but I add an egg, a little salmon or cod liver oil, and give a good dog multivitamin every week to pick up any vitamins I’ve left out. I’ve been feeding raw for 8 years, my dogs love it, it keeps my older dogs active and functional well into their twilight years, I think feeding a carnivore it’s natural diet (raw meat) is common sense and I’m having outstanding results with it.
