Good Value For Money Dog Food
There are several factors to take into account when deciding if a dog food is good value for money. With 15kg (the large) bags of dog food typically ranging from £10 to £60 per bag how do you know which is best? There are several factors which can make a dog food expensive, some of these are worth the money and some are not.
Ingredients can affect the price of a dog food. Ingredients are listed on the packaging in order, with the highest content being shown first. Generally speaking meat costs more than wheat and cereals, so the higher up the ingredient list the meat is the more it will cost, but this also means that the food is probably better for the dog, so this is worth paying for. Also, the cheaper foods which are filled with ingredients like wheat will require more grams of food per feed to provide your dog with all the nutrients he needs, meaning a 15kg bag will not last as long and could actually work out more expensive. It is also worth baring in mind that most of the wasted ingredients in the cheaper food will come straight out of the other end, meaning more picking up after your dog.
Ingredient source can also affect price. Just like we may prefer to buy free range eggs, chickens and environmentally friendly grown vegetables for a slight extra cost we can now also do this for dog food. It is possible that the healthier livestock and more nutritional vegetables will be better for your dog, but it also gives you piece of mind. This is a slight added cost which many people will be happy to pay for.
Expenditure of the company, for example TV advertising campaigns. These promotional activities cost money, so if you can find a food which has similar ingredients from a company which does not spend a fortune on advertising then maybe it will be cheaper.
