Dog Food Dishes
How do I train my dog not to get at dirty dishes or food left on counter?
Right, if there were no dirty dishes, I wouldn’t have such a problem, but they are there sometimes. She knocked down and ate half a pan of brownies and about 2 dozen cookies the other day. I try to be careful not to leave those things out, but I left to take the kids to school and came back to the pans on the floor. She ONLY does this when no one is home. How do I get her to stop? And how do I train her to stay off the couch without telling her every 10 minutes to get down? Any ideas? She is very stubborn. She wants to do what she wants to do.
Dogs are only trained by action and consequence. If the dog gets up on the counter and there is no consequence – because no one is home, he will keep doing it. Same for the couch.
I’d suggest a couch alarm. You can buy them from lots of places, and you can use it on the counter and on the couch.
What it does is send a VERY loud, annoying sound when the dog gets on what she’s not supposed to be on. That’s the consequence for her action. Eventually she will relate the annoying sound to the action, and know that she can’t do it, or suffer the consequence.
